It’s been over a year since I’ve posted here—in blog terms, that’s a lifetime. In some ways that’s okay; I’ve been planning on moving this blog over to my real name, Bear Weiter (and the appropriate domain name as well), and as such posting anything here seems…wrong, false.
But as this is my “writing site” still (for now anyway), I should at least update it with a few bits of news.
The biggest is my short story, “The Little Things,” making Ellen Datlow’s honorable mention short list for 2012. Here, you can check it out if you don’t believe me:
She had mentioned this to me in person last year at ReaderCon, when I first met her. She had no idea who I was, of course, nor afterwards when I had introduced myself. But because I had registered for ReaderCon before deciding to move back to my real name for all things, my name tag said Jacob Ruby, and that did stick with her. This lead to her commenting about the story, and putting it onto her “short list,” and a few other things that almost went over my head due to the rather pleasant surprise by it all.
So, yeah, that happened.
Also along the way I sold a few more short stories, and I’ve updated my bibliography to reflect most of those changes.
I was involved with the Geek Love Kickstarter, helping story and art selection as well as designing the book, the ebook, and helping with other aspects of the overall production. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve done with it, and the team itself.
I’ve completed my first novel, and while I’m still working on some edits I will be pitching it this week at the Bram Stoker Awards Weekend/World Horror. Oh, and of course I will be attending the convention.
I’ve started on my second novel, and I think it will be a strong follow up to the first. I expect to complete it by the end of the year.
There’s some other things going on, but I think this is a good place to stop as I still need to pack, work on the pitch, and other things related to the trip to New Orleans. If you’re at the convention say hi, and if not, hopefully you’ll see me at my new home at bearweiter.com.
